Foreign policy is more important than domestic issues at this phase. Both candidates want to attack a Muslim country (take your pick of Sudan, Pakistan, or Iran). Both candidates given unconditional support to Israeli oppression of Palestinians. In terms of domestic issues, which ones affect Muslims in a constructive manner? Neither candidate is even willing to meet with Muslims at all, even to court votes or to acquire monies for fundraising.

When I said that they were two sides of the same coin - I was referring to the fact that they are both ardent supporters of American hegemony.

What’s up ahk? Just wanted to say that while I understand your pov I think it’s a real stretch to make the claim that Obama and McCain are two sides of the same coin.

Yes…..foreign policy will remain largely the same although some the hyper-aggressive posturing will probably be toned down a little in an Obama administration (not to mention pulling out Iraq sometime this century)…..when it comes to domestic policy the two candidates couldn’t be more different.

In order to challenge hegemony, you first have to develop consciousness of it, how it develops, why, and its weaknesses.

The reason why Muslims support a particular candidate is because we want to see an end to Western hegemony in the Muslim world? Is the President the cause of this hegemony? If he’s not the cause of that hegemony, then how can he be the solution?

Focus on combating Islamophobia and preserving the life and liberty of Muslims can be done independently of trying to vote in the presidential elections.

The elections are not the proper venue to push for our goals, especially if we’re not even pressing for the issues that truly affect us.
