Candidates for the Khalifah

The fuqaha have stated that the establishment of the Khalifah is a fardh kaffayah. Irrespective of the classical proofs for the communal obligation of the Khalifah, it is as obvious as day light that Muslims need an Islamic government somewhere in the world that can act within the interests of the community, given the flagrant aggression against Islam these days.

The purpose of this post is to compile a list of potential candidates for the Caliphate. If you have a candidate in mind, please state the name of the person and a brief explanation for why you have picked this person.

Before doing so, it might be prudent to read the following links:

- On the Imamate (Ibn Juzayy al-Kalbi)

- Eligibility Requirements of the Khalifah - (Imam Mawardi)

- Public Duties of the Khalifah - (Imam Mawardi)

- Qualifications of the Electors - (Imam Mawardi)

- On Bayah - (Ibn Khaldun)

- Kitab at-Tahir - “Formulations of the Principles of Political Insight” (Muhammad Bello Ibn Shaykh Uthman Dan Fodio)

My Nominations:

1. Shaykh Muhammad Sa`id Ramadan al-Bouti - (Bio)

2. Mufti Taqi Usmani - (Bio)

3. Shaykh Qaradawi

4. Imam Anwar Awlaki

Who would you nominate and why?

I’d share my views, except I don’t want to be called a kaffir :’(

Believe me, I’m the last person on the face of the earth to call someone a kaffir.

I think Imam Anwar Al Awlaki would make a good nominee. But i’m basing this purely on the lectues i’ve heard from him and Mashallah i think he’s a great person and has a lot of knowledge and somehow you can tell from how a person speaks how he/she is. I feel he’d be just.

Those are just random thoughts though.

As-salaamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatu,

I would choose Imam Anwar al-Awlaki… mostly ‘cuz he’s the only name (besides Qaradawi’s) that I recognize on the whole list! But also because I’ve listened to his lectures and think he’s amazing, masha’Allah (SWT)…

    salaam,

I am surprised Imam Anwar is on this list. He went radical (promoting some time ago)…

And thats the part that drives the enemy crazy. Because the enemy knows that no mattter what they do to you that you are happy with it. I was reading in the paper… I was in this country when this Amrosi thing happened, sentenced him to death. they cheered when he was sentenced to death. Then when they saw him two thumbs up, smiling, and laughing.. They changed their mind…[cut]

Amrozi is the bomber who smiled while facing the mothers of Muslims that he killed. This and other works of his indicate a support for the radical violent works of bombers within the Muslim community.

    as-salamu’alaikum,

    On the general subject…

The other principal that is incorrect is that the leader is supposed to be some sort of accomplished religious scholar. Looking at Ottoman Khalifa’s, Andalusian, Moghul, etc, we don’t find that as a quality that is really necessary.

Rather, people need to understand that leadership and the strength to claim it comes from Allah (SWT) Most High, not from us down below.

The sheep do not choose their shephard, regardless of how man ways people today are trying to fit Islam into democracy.
