Competition in the Muslim Community

One of the things that makes people sad is when members of our community split off and form different organizations. For example, dissatisfied members of a particular masjid or msa will split off and form their own organization or masjid. How often do we see major masajid that constantly compete against one another in their schools, newsletters, centers of Islamic knowledge, etc.

At a first glance, this may seem negative because it may render divisions within the community and create unnecessary divisions. However, in my opinion, the more Muslim organizations, newsletters, websites, forums we have, the better it is. Initially, a lot of these projects will merely regurgitate or transfer the same information. In order to succeed, in order to gather a significant audience, they will have to innovate in the presentation of their project and the project itself. In other words, competition between these projects will result in the development of each project. As more Islamic newspapers, educational institutions, forums, fatwa sites appear in our community, the more they will have to re-invent themselves in order to keep their “clients”. This may result in friction between project developers, but it also results in a better product.

    Assalam Alaykum,

But i don’t like the way people argue between themselves (Muslims) on little issues and are rude to each other. :-/

I get your point, but the Muslim Ummah should be one, united and strong. Inshallah one day…
