Muslims Burn Bibles!

GASP!

Those crazy Moslems at it again!

If I were a right-wing pundit, I would be making the following statements:

- The New Testament is the word of a False God and deserves to be burnt

- This action is protected by Free Speech

- “They” don’t respect us, so why should we respect “them.”

Of course, I’m not a right wing pundit. I don’t think any book should be burned, regardless of its heretical or unorthodox views . . . except for maybe the lyrics to a Mika song. Those definitely need to get burnt.

I find it interesting how there’s very little media coverage of this, but when it involves Muslims, its all over the place. This is another illustration of the bias in the corporate media against Muslims.

I certainly understand your view point. Have a peek at this argument, where conservatives actually used this intolerant incident by our friends in Israel as an opportunity to beat Muslims over the head.

    Amazing, isn’t it?

    Hmm, thats not entirely unsurprising.

Of course, that perception is entirely flawed for a variety of reasons. Most of the areas of the Muslim world protested peacefully with regards to Qur’anic desecration, only those countries that had sour relations with Western states (Syria, Iran, etc) were the ones that engaged in violence. In terms other forms of violence, it was at best, sporadic - similar to how after 9/11 Muslims, Arabs and anyone resembling them were attacked by random individuals.

The fact that they’ve used this as an opportunity to bash Islam proves my point exactly - had this been Muslims burning bibles, it would have been used as a precedence to make a categorical denunciation of Islam itself. In this situation, people are making a distinction between Jews and Israelis and coming up with all sorts of distinctions and justifications to defend the action or to praise Christianity.
