The Anti-Islamist

I’m working on an essay entitled “The Islamist Papers” which is intended to be a massive refutation of every argument against Islamic political philosophy. In order to sufficiently rebut the many claims against an Islamic government, I’m working on compiling all of these claims into a single document. After all, you can’t refute an argument unless you first understand it.

So here is an outline for the Anti-Islamist. In other words, a compilation of some basic arguments against Islamic government. Please give comments and let me know if anything should be added or taken out.

I need to find some Brothers/Sisters who can handle the economic issues because a lot of that stuff goes over my head.

Anyhow, please critique:

I. The Necessity of the Islamic State

a. Leave the Situation. Don’t change anything

i. Islam is purely a religion without political/economic aspects

1. Our duty is to give dawah and be ethical people, but not to intervene in politics at all

2. The elements of Islam that were political were restricted to the era of the Prophet (saw) and are no longer applicable today

a. It was restricted to the Sahabah (ra)

b. Islamic government is obsolete

ii. Islamic government is no longer practical

iii. We live in the Makkan phase

1. Our present duties are just dawah. When the people are ready, the state will be established

a. Require unanimous consent? Majority consent? What is the standard and what is the proof?

b. Jews and Christians were part of the state

c. No such thing as perfect Muslims

i. Do we have to wait for everyone to be a perfect Muslim?

b. Change the Situation to Liberal Democratic Capitalism

i. Democracy is the way to go because

1. Everyone is doing

2. It works

3. It is better than Islamic state

4. Even if the Islamic state is limited by the Shariah and is not a totalitarian form of government, it is still oppressive (ie the Shariah itself is unjust)

II. Principles of Islamic Government

a. Whether democracy and Islamic government are compatible

b. Whether Civil Rights exist in Islam

c. Whether there are checks and balances in an Islamic government

d. Whether Islamic government stems from or at least respects the will of the people

e. Whether Islamic government is a limited form of government
