The Dreamers Keep Dreaming . . .

Here’s an outline for an essay I’m working on. I need to get my hands on Shatibi’s Philosophy of Islamic law. I’m gonna try to get an annotated outline finished by the end of the month.

When I go to NJ this weekend, inshaAllah, I’m going to sit down with a friend and review the structure of the outline. This is a very rough outline. It requires some explanation.

I think to do the above outline justice you would have to write a book, not an essay. But this is an excellent guide for research and I think alot can come from it. I’ve been thinking of attempting a reconstruction of ethical philosophy replacing all anthropocentric and anthropogenic values with Theocentric and Theogenic ones. It would be an ethical philosophy concieved by a Muslim and informed by Islam, but, insha’Allah (SWT), as conceptually independant and rationally grounded as the other formulations of ethics.

    Assalamu alaikum

Although I appreciate the compliments, don’t praise me until the essay is done. I have a remarkable tendency to plan things that I never fulfill.

Luqman, for now, I’m gonna have to settle with an essay. I’m aiming for something less than pages. If I get published and get some free time/money, who knows, maybe a book.

    I’ll keep everyone posted.

Btw, Goldi, you can buy Imam Shatibi’s book from either Amazon or the ghetto Pakistani version from http://www.islamicbookstore.com
