Warning: Islamophobes May Be Coming To Your School!
Assalamu alaikum
I was surprised and dismayed to learn that a conservative organization is hosting an event that will engage in Islam bashing at universities all over the country, including my alma mater. Perhaps in response to Islamic Awareness Week, the David Horowitz “Freedom” Center is promoting a “Stop Islamo-Fascism” Week.
According to their website, Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week will feature:
Ø Memorial services for the victims of Islamic Terror both in America and around the globe.
Ø A Student petition denouncing Islamo-Fascist violence against women, gays, Christians, Jews and non-religious people.
Ø A Teach-In on “The Oppression of Women in Islam.â€
Ø Sit-ins in Women’s Studies Departments and campus Women’s Centers to protest their silence about the oppression of women in Islam.
Ø Prominent speakers against Islamo-Fascism such as Ayan Hirsi Ali, Mark Steyn, David Horowitz, Nonie Darwish, Christina Hoff Sommers, Phyllis Chesler, Frank Gaffney and Daniel Pipes.
Ø Documentary films about the Islamo-Fascist crusade against America, Israel and the West.
Ø Distribution of materials on Islamo-Fascism including the pamphlets The Oppression of Women in Islam, The Islamic Mein Kampf, Why Israel is the Victim, Jimmy Carter’s War Against the Jews, and What Every American Needs to Know About Jihad.
This isn’t the first time that they promoted these events, they did it in the past but it wasn’t so widely advertised. At first, I thought these loonies would give up, but it seems that they’ve only become more determined to spread lies and rumors concerning our religion.
I think it would be prudent for Muslim Student Associations to network responses in anticipation of these events. After all, if their is a national organization coordinating a smear campaign against Islam, it only stands to reason that the response in defense of Islam should be a concerted national effort as well.
What I would advise is that people do not get angry or protest their events, but through a process of carefully constructed dialogue, engage them in argumentation with wisdom and forebearance. The focus of our response should be to discredit their movement and methods and promote Islam.
Below, you will find the e-mail I was forwarded by Br. Luqman. Please make sure that if your school is listed below that your MSA formulates a contingency plan to respond to these guys in a peaceful, fair, but decisive manner.
IGNORING THE PROBLEM WILL NOT MAKE IT GO AWAY!
May Allah
(subhana wa ta’ala) grant us victory in this matter and all matters. Ameen.

A Student’s Guide to Hosting Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week
October 22-26, 2007
During the week of October 22-26, 2007, the nation will be rocked by the biggest conservative campus protest ever – Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, a wake-up call for Americans on 200 university and college campuses.
The purpose of this protest is as simple as it is crucial: to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat. Nothing could be more politically incorrect than to point this out. But nothing could be more important for American students to hear. In the face of the greatest danger Americans have ever confronted, the academic left has mobilized to create sympathy for the enemy and to fight anyone who rallies Americans to defend themselves. According to the academic left, anyone who links Islamic radicalism to the war on terror is an “Islamophobe.” According to the academic left, the Islamo-fascists hate us not because we are tolerant and free, but because we are “oppressors.”
Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is a national effort to oppose these lies and to rally American students to defend their country.

I am not in the states for a while but this has to be countered strongly and effectively. MSA national and zonal and state organizations must think of how to respond effectively as a group. I pray that you and others are getting together to counter this.
Just Appalling at the hatred!

I completely agree. This needs a response because it will only grow and get stronger if we don’t refute them.
I’m working on a national strategy as we speak. InshaAllah, I’ll have something up on the blog within a few days.

If you believe that Islam is a peaceful religion than you should all SUPPORT Islamo-Fascism week!
In Iran they bury women up to their neck in sand and then stone them to death for “sexual immorality” In Saudi Arabia, you can’t be a Christian or Jew or practice any other religion except radical Islam.
And of course you have the Islamic Nazi Terrorists who want to destroy Wester Civilization. Bin Laden and his friends have said so in their OWN words. If we convert to Islam bin laden says then we will have peace.
So you people are Muslims, you should speak out against this stuff!!!
If not you are no better than the terrorists!
September 25, 2007 @ 1:41 pm
1. Define peaceful religion
2. Do you think freedom is an intrinsic good or an instrumental good?
3. What does Islamic terrorism have to do with Nazism? Isn’t forcing countries to become a democracy no different from what the Nazis did? The Constitution of the US (not to mention subsequent foreign policy) condones an expansionist state. On what grounds do you deny it to Muslims and grant it to America?
4. Calling me a terrorist because I don’t agree with your particular worldview is childish and simplistic. I have never advocated the killing of civilizations and have always condemned it. Thus, your assertion that I am just as bad as the terrorists is nothing more than a cheap rhetorical argument.
September 25, 2007 @ 2:34 pm
“your assertion that I am just as bad”
He did not assert that. He said YOUR silence asserts that. Protest against the bombings of markets in Iraq by “muslims”, the beheading of school girls in Malaysia by “muslims”, the hanigng of women in Iran by “muslims”. If these are not true muslims pronounce tafkir on them and condem them. Otherwise you are a terrorist by your support of them and your silence of them.
October 11, 2007 @ 1:16 am
Dear Fascist,
My silence doesn’t assert anything. It asserts apathy if anything.
With regards to takfeer, takfeer is the pronouncement of disbelief upon a person for engaging in an act of disbelief. Its the core tenet of our faith that no action, no matter how sinful, does not amount to disbelief if the action itself doesn’t contain an element of disbelief within it. So at the bare minimum, I would condemn them for their sins, but as a Muslim, its prohibited in my faith to proclaim such people non-believers. Please stop imposing a Christian understanding of exocommunication upon me.
Please explain to me how not condemning these actions makes me a terrorist when I’ve killed no one nor aided nor abetted them.
